National Friends of Libraries Week, Oct. 18 – 24

This week we take time to honor our Friends of the Library group.

Did you know that the Macdonald-Kelce Library has its own Friends of the Library organization? Friends groups support libraries in many ways. Currently, the MKL Friends of the Library membership funds go toward much needed upkeep of our archival collection. Our Friends group also sponsors the annual UTWrites lecture. This year we welcome former FBI profiler and writer Joe Navarro on October 27th, 5PM in Fletcher Lounge, Plant Hall. Please join us!

If you would like to become a member and support the Library, you can do so by signing up here. If you are an alumni and would like to continue checking out books, or a faculty member who would like to support the library monetarily, consider becoming a Friend today.

UTWrites Lecture with Sociology Professor Bruce Friesen

Please join us for the annual UTWrites lecture presented by the Friends of the Macdonald-Kelce Library.

Wednesday, April 1
Macdonald-Kelce Library
Room AV2
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

This year UT Sociologist Bruce Friesen will share insights from his book — Moral Systems and the Evolution of Human Rights (Springer 2015) — which provides a compelling account for the vast amount of change in moral systems over time, the human imperative to create meaningful moral systems and why human rights have emerged as the world’s first indigenous, global, moral system.

Treats will be provided and Professor Friesen will be available to answer questions after the presentation.

Thanks to Dr. Sclafani and Everyone Who Helped with the UTWrites Presentation

On behalf of the Macdonald Kelce Library I want to thank Dr. Joseph Sclafani, who generously agreed to talk about his new book The Educated Parent 2 for our semi-regular Friends of the Library UTWrites presentation. Thank you, Dr. Sclafani!

Dr. Sclafani’s new book provides some fascinating insight to the challenges facing parents in the 21st century. I learned a lot from hearing him talk about his research.

I also want to thank the Friends of the Library for their help with the event. Thanks as well to John Meyer from the Campus Bookstore, library staff, and UT Catering for their prompt, cheerful, and excellent service.

If you’re a parent, a soon-to-be parent, know a parent, or know someone who is about to become a parent I can’t recommend this book highly enough. You can purchase a copy at the University of Tampa Bookstore, or at your favorite online bookseller.
