New Series: Your University of Tampa Librarians

Since I provided a little bit of information about the three blogging librarians at UT, I decided I needed to introduce the rest.

By the way, in case you did not know the Macdonald-Kelce Library has eight full-time and 2 half-time librarians. Between us we provide  research assistance on the reference desk 110 hours every week, Sunday thru Saturday during the academic year. Our responsibilities off the reference desk vary but ultimately we are all committed to providing information guidance and assistance to all UT students, faculty, and staff.

With all this in mind, I think it is appropriate  that we begin with our fearless leader, Library Director, Marlyn Pethe. Marlyn did her undergraduate studies at Stetson University and then went on to earn a Master’s degree in library science at the University of South Florida.

When Marlyn was deciding on her career she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do but she did know she wanted to help people and she thought she could best do this by being either a librarian or social worker. So, she decided to take a graduate class in each. She took the library science class first and she loved it so much that she never took the social work class.

Marlyn really enjoys the diverse people she meets here at UT and feels that she learns something new here every day. She would also encourage students to let go of any fears they have about college and try different classes, ask questions (especially from librarians), and of course try all sorts of university of activities.

You can catch Marlyn on the reference desk this semester most week day afternoons. Stop by and get to know your UT library director today!
